Pacers Hot Spots

by Jared Wade on January 16, 2009 at 4:15 pm · 1 comment

NBA.com has a new feature this year where they aggregate every shot by every player and color code the different spots on the floor where the dude is either hot or cold. For MLB fans, it’s essentially the same hot/cold zone concept that ESPN, Fox and video games have been utilizing for years now, only the Association calls it “Hotshots.”

No, it’s not as good as the movie (nor Part Deux solely on the strength of the Wall Street scene), but it’s pretty dope nonetheless.

For purely illustrative purposes, I took the liberty of running a few Pacer players through the system to show the vast difference two people can have.

Danny Granger – 26.4 ppg on 45.5% FG and 39.3% 3PT

Marquis Daniels – 15.3 ppg on 46.2% FG and 18.5% 3PT

Indeed, Marquis doesn’t even deserve a photo.

And since Jermaine O’Neal makes his first return to Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis tonight with the Raptors (though he’s not expected to play and wants the beasting Andrea Bargnani start in his place even when he is ready to come back from injury), let’s just look at the charts for all the guys involved in last summer’s trade.

You can follow that game tonight live over at Indy Cornrows.

UPDATE: Jermaine played.

Jermaine O’Neal – 14.0 ppg on 47.5% FG

TJ Ford – 14.1 ppg on 43.6% FG and 36.7% 3PT

Rasho Nesterovic – 9.1 ppg on 52.7% FG

Roy Hibbert – 5.9 ppg on 50.9 FG%

Always a Bridesmaid

by Jared Wade on January 5, 2009 at 3:21 pm · 0 comments

Newfound double-double maven Troy Murphy really enjoys being one of only two decent rebounders on the Pacers so as to pad his stats. And he really, really enjoys taking top-of-the-key threes while trailing in transition.

But contrary to popular belief, neither of those is his ultimate calling in life.

“I’m going to be an event planner — weddings, bar mitzvahs, everything like that,” [Troy] said. “That’s my passion. It is.”

Good luck, Murphy, and thanks to Indy Cornrows for the link.

Coincidentally, you can also read one of the few NBA-related things I did during my hiatus over there — presuming, ya know, you give a shit about a Pacers/Kings game from two days ago where K-Mart and Granger dropped 45 and 35, respectively.

Additionally, I answered some questions for Cuzoogle.

UPDATE: I also answered some questions for TalkHoops. God knows why people are asking me things.

And I swear I never saw Ball Don’t Lie’s exact same photoshop until just now. My bad, Skeets. I would just take it down since I was second to the party apparently but, c’mon, mine’s better.

C-Webb Is What’s Up

by Jared Wade on December 19, 2008 at 1:12 pm · 0 comments

After some regrettable early season mockery of Chris for his continual fake laughter, I have to say that my boy Webber has been just killing the NBA TV show for the past month. Now he’s bringing his glory to TNT’s Inside the NBA studio and throwing shoes at the Chuckster. (via Ball Don’t Lie)

Add this to his GINOOOOBLI-like Rondooooooooooo calls (below), his refusal to look at the camera and just the general back-and-forth he has with Gary Payton, and it’s safe to say that we should all be thankful to have more C-Webb in our lives. In fact, all of NBA TV has been great this year with Eric Snow and Steve Smith both also coming on strong. Even Ahmad was unusually not horrible the other night when they interviewed Shaq, the show’s best guest since Danny Granger, who, in response to GP’s question of whether he should call Marquis Daniels “Robin” since Danny is the Pacers’ Batman, said “You can call him whatever you want. I call him Lil’ Wayne.”
