Jack Molinas exemplified the best and the worst among athletes – and maybe all people. To those of us who stand in awe of great athletic prowess, Molinas’ real life makes us realize how vulnerable a man can be when he forsakes his talent to live on the edge. The saddest part of the Molinas story is that history tends to repeat itself, and the NBA has learned nothing from the way late NBA Commissioner Maurice Podoloff used Molinas as a scapegoat for a gambling scandal. Rather than address the seeds of the problem, which include the point spreads touted by newspapers and sportscasters, David Stern prefers to blame everything on “a person,” Tim Donaghy. I’ve read everything I can about Jack Molinas, fact and fiction. While in “Broken Trust-The Murder of Basketball Star Jack Molinas,” Jerry Marcus presents a decidedly fictional glimpse of what Molinas’ life could have been (had he not been such a scoundrel), he also holds nothing back about the hypocrisy of the NBA and other aspects of society.

Interesting, Fred. I didn't even realize he was dead, let alone murdered. As someone who is currently attending CCNY, I really should know more about that whole thing. I honestly didn't even realize the Connie Hawkins blackball stemmed from that whole thing until I just looked it up.

And please don't dispute the spammers, KD.

Came across your website while doing a Google search on Jack Molinas. I like the way you write and your perspective on "Montagate." Just an FYI - I recently read a book that has an interesting take on the NBA and Molinas: "Broken Trust - The Murder of Basketball Star Jack Molinas." With the NBA referee scandal still in the minds of basketball fans, I found the book to be a timely and creative look at the subject - as well as an entertaining read. The author, Jerry Marcus, seems to know the sport well and has some great insights.
